Codes & Ordinances

Mowing

Any property (vacated or non-vacated) is required to be mowed any time the vegetation reaches a height of 12" or more. Any property not mowed when vegetation reaches 12" in height may be moved by the City and a charge of up to $100.00 will be issued to the property owner for each occurrence. If property owners do not provide payment for the mowing required, the charge will be assessed to the property.

Snow Removal

All sidewalks must be completely cleared of snow and ice within 36 hours after deposit of accumulation. Snow should not be blown, pushed, or placed upon a city street. This includes snow pushed by homeowners and snow removal contractors.

 

Snow Ordinance in Effect

No person shall park, abandon, or leave unattended any vehicle on any public street, alley, or City-owned off-street parking area during any snow emergency proclaimed by the Mayor unless the snow has been removed or plowed from said street, alley or parking area and the snow has ceased to fall.  A snow emergency parking ban shall continue from its proclamation through the duration of the snow or ice storm and the forty-eight-hour period after cessation of the storm except as above provided upon streets which have been fully opened. (Code of Iowa, Sec. 321.236)

 

Building Permits

Building permits are required for buildings or structures, fences, decks, etc. that are erected or altered.  Contact the city clerk for information regarding building permits.  You need to have the permit before the project is started. 

 

Weeds

Property owners must mow their property and/or destroy all weeds, etc. by the 15th of each month from May 15th through and including September 15th.

Animals

Any dog found at large will be impounded at City Hall. Upon walking pets please remove and dispose of all droppings from all public walks and city parks. Excessive barking is prohibited and may be declared a nuisance. Dangerous animals are strictly prohibited within the city. It is unlawful to keep farm animals within the city limits. 

 

Junk Vehicles

Junk vehicles are prohibited within the City of Fremont, by eliminating junk and/or abandoned vehicles, the city is trying to protect the health, safety, and welfare of its citizens.
